Official California Smog Station
STAR Certified Smog Check
Ensure your vehicle meets California's environmental standards with our fast, reliable, and legally compliant emission testing services.
Protecting Our Environment
A smog check is a mandatory inspection designed to measure the amount and type of pollutants your vehicle emits. By identifying high-polluting vehicles, we help reduce the toxic emissions that contribute to poor air quality and respiratory issues. For over 25 years, our STAR-Certified station has been at the forefront of environmental stewardship in Mendocino County.
Beyond environmental protection, smog checks are vital for legal compliance. Most vehicles in California are required to pass an emissions test every two years for registration renewal. Our certified technicians use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to ensure your vehicle meets all state standards, keeping you legal on the road and helping the region breathe easier.
Compliance & Performance
Legal Compliance
Ensure your vehicle meets California state regulations. Passing a smog check is essential for registration renewal and legal operation on the road.
Environmental Impact
Lower your carbon footprint by identifying excessive emissions. Smog checks help reduce air pollutants, protecting Mendocino County's natural beauty.
Engine Longevity
A smog check can reveal underlying issues with your engine's combustion. Early detection prevents costly repairs and extends your vehicle's life.
The Smog Check Process
01
Vehicle Documentation Check
We begin by verifying your DMV registration renewal notice or current registration. This ensures your vehicle data is correctly entered into the state system.
02
Visual & Functional Inspection
Our technicians perform a thorough visual inspection of emission control components. We check the gas cap, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light), and OBDII readiness.
03
Emissions Testing
Using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, we measure the pollutants your vehicle emits. For most 2000 and newer vehicles, this involves a digital scanning process via the OBDII port.
04
Results & Certification
If your vehicle passes, results are sent electronically to the DMV immediately. You'll receive a copy of the Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) for your records.
A smog check is a state-mandated inspection of a vehicle's emissions control systems to ensure it is not polluting the air beyond legal limits. It's required for registration renewal in California.
You should bring your vehicle's registration renewal notice from the DMV. If you don't have it, we can still perform the test with your current registration card.
If your vehicle fails, it must be repaired and retested. As a full-service repair shop, we can diagnose the issue and perform the necessary repairs to get you back on the road legally.
Smog testing protects our environment by reducing harmful emissions that contribute to air pollution. It's also a legal requirement for road compliance in California.
A professional smog inspection typically takes between 20 to 30 minutes. We value your time and work efficiently to get you through the process quickly.
All smogs are first come first served. You may call ahead to ask if we are busy though!
